On the last weekend of the summer holidays, August 31 - September 1 2019, tattoo aficionados will meet in the International Conference Centre in Katowice, to take part in this year's last edition of Tattoo Konwent. As its motto states, the main mission of the festival is to show "other art dimensions", this is why the program is full of various attractions - not only tattoo-related.
Tattoo Konwent is an all-Poland tattoo festival that’s been around since 2009. Each year the event takes place in at least four cities. It always wraps up in Katowice, where Tattoo Konwent will be hosted for the 7th time.
Tattoo as a reason for encounter
Each time the convention is visited by several thousand of tattoo lovers searching for inspirations and for the right tattoo artist. In the exhibition zone of Katowice Tattoo Konwent there will be more than 200 artists at work. They can submit their works in contests taking place on the Konwent’s stage, The jury composed of: Marcin „Insekt” Polak (TOTEM studio), Maciej Michalak (Przestrzeń Tattoo), Maciej „Niuans” Bojko (Cykada Tattoo) will review the works in 11 categories and select the most interesting designs. An additional, 12th category, will be made by “The biggest blooper contest”. From among the enrolled works, the worst tattoos will be selected.
As tradition goes, the event will also witness a special Konwent action. That action is Dziarka w ciemno (Ink in the Dark), during which tattoo artists hidden behind a curtain will make surprise tattoos on the participants. The participants of the action will only know what the design is when the tattooing is done.
Other art dimensions at Katowice Tattoo Konwent
The main stage will host two rappers from the JWP collective, which has already performed on the festival. This time the Konwent will host Ero and Kosi. The duo will promote their “BlackBook” album. The event will also have a performance of the Dyemotion dance theatre led by Marian Folga and Anna Banasik. The dancers’ collective will perform an uncanny show which, thanks to the music, the play of lights, and their painted bodies glimmering in UV lights, will drag the audience into the world of fairytales.
The program of Tattoo Konwent would not be complete without an alternative performance. The adrenaline level of the spectators will be in the hands of Cecillia Gossila - specialist in sword swallowing and fire eating who likes burlesque, and Yuka Estrella - who will bring her demonic show which involves pyrotechnics and aerial on ropes and chains.
The animated stage of Tattoo Konwent will present its original mapping titled “INK3D” showing the past and the future of tattooing. On Saturday evening the convention will join forces with its accompanying event - Gastro Fajer. On the roof of the Spodek there will be a common after party with a concert of the rapper RAU.
