Between the 29th and 30th of July AmberExpo in Gdańsk was full of the sound of tattoo razors thanks to Gdańsk Tattoo Konwent - the tattoo festival that was taking place there. This edition of the event has attracted over 6800 visitors who were not only looking for inspiration at the fair, but also took advantage of other attractions such as concerts, shows and thematic zones.
Gdańsk Tattoo Konwent is an event gathering in one place people associated with the tattoo industry and those who had their tattoos made. It is also a great event for visitors who participate in the convention to satisfy their curiosity and to take a closer look at the process of body tattooing for the first time. Skin colouring lovers could also make an appointment with a tattoo artist in advance or choose one of their ready, authorial designs and spontaneously benefit from the chosen artist’s talent. Among the participants with freshly decorated bodies were also the winners of the ‘The Blind Ink’ contest, based on the ‘Blind Date’ show. 6 people were tattooed for free as a part of a special happening. Tattoos of unknown motifs were performed by Patryk Hilton from Demolka Tat2 and Inez Janiak from Od Świtu do Zmierzchu. The artists worked behind a special curtain and the tattooed risk-takers did not know what pattern they would end up with until the session finished.
Element of competition
The festival hosted 300 tattoo artists this time. Works performed by them were exhibited in 12 categories. The designs were judged by a jury of highly appreciated artists associated with tattoos and other fields of art. Krzysztof Iwin, Marcin Pawlus, Bartosz Panas and Tomasz Torfiński have singled out 36 designs. The best tattoo of the first day of the convention was performed by Jarek from Goraj Tattoo, and the prize for the best tattoo of the second day was received by Julia Szewczykowska from Junior Ink Studio / Najgorsze Studio w Mieście (Warszawa).
Festival attractions
Participants were mostly interested in tattoo-related attractions but they also gathered around the stage during Saturday's alternative fashion show, performances of talented dancers and an illusionist and, above all, at the adrenaline-boosting suspension show of Miss Crash. Włodi, Hades, Małach & Rufuz and Bastard Disco played during Gdańsk Tattoo Konwent. In the AmberExpo hall there were special zones connected with such as fields as fashion, motorization and many others. This year’s last edition of the festival is going to be held on 23rd/24th September in Katowice.
